Welcome back! In this full tutorial, I will walk you through the products and process used in creating the Shelee Bloom technique, and am also demonstrating my take by using my ‘bloomin’ swipe’ technique to achieve the cells and lacing rather than blowing.
If you haven’t seen Shelee’s work or taken her course, you can check out both at www.sheleeart.com.au I would strongly encourage taking her course; it is worth it! If you use the discount code “sheleeart15risensun” you will get 15% off the course price!!
The ingredients I use are similar, though not identical to those in her course. I am using house paint, in a semi-gloss white, for the base or “pillow”. The brand is noted in the video.
The pouring medium I use is 3 pars ultra-deep untinted paint base, mixed with 1 part water-based polyurethane. The brands I use are also note in the video.
The “cell activator” as noted in the video, is:
15 mls - Glue All
15 mls - Amsterdam (standard series) titanium white, (though you can use other Amsterdam colors successfully
30 mls - Floetrol by Flood (US version)
2.5 mls - Minwax
The paints for the puddles are mostly Amsterdam acrylics, transparent and semi-transparent colors. These are mixed 5 parts pouring medium with 1 part paint. Rather than water, I use various acrylic inks to achieve desired consistency. This also contributes to the vibrancy of the colors.
Hinged cups: REMOVED. Second batch of container had the pull tab break off on first use. I no longer recommend them.
