Hey guys, today we're gonna take a look at the Yakima SkinnyWarrior Rooftop Cargo Basket with the extension. Like I said, this is gonna have a 16 inch extension that goes in the middle of our SkinnyWarrior. That's just gonna give us 16 more inches of length on our cargo basket so that we have more storage capacity, for more gear, to get it outside of our vehicle. Now, the baskets gonna mount to the roof rack of our vehicle. Again, allows us to get any of the excess cargo, or any dirty, or soiled gear out of the interior of our vehicle and get it up above our roof so that we can travel with it.Now the unique design of this cargo basket is that it's a lot thinner than your standard cargo baskets, hence the name SkinnyWarrior. Now, it's gonna allow you to get other gear on the other side of your roof rack, like we have a kayak right now, but also bike racks and anything else like that. Now, with anything you put on your roof, you are gonna experience some wind noise and drag. Yakima wants to help you out with that, which is why they included this fairing that's easily removable so that's gonna help deflect that wind over top of your cargo basket.
Now like I said, it is easily removable and you can actually take this off, if you have an elongated load that'll come through more than the length of the basket, so that you'll be able to carry those loads without anything in the way.Now the raised side rails of our basket, along with the ribs that make up the floor and sides of our basket, are gonna make for great tie-down points. You see, right here, we have our paddle strapped down on, against, the bar. Now there's also a SkinnyWarrior cargo net available, that you can purchase separately here at eTrailer, and it's designed specifically for our SkinnyWarrior so that you can use the hooks to hook them onto the thickness of the sidebar here, or even the ribs. It's gonna be two separate hooks on that basket. It's actually going to make for less time consuming loading of your material and strapping them down. Now, this durable rack is gonna have a 165 pound weight capacity but you do want to be sure that you double check with your vehicle's owner's manual and the owner's manual of your roof rack, if it's an after market one, to make sure that they both can handle that weight. Now that we have it unloaded we can take a closer look.
One thing I do want to make sure you guys note, is that if you already own the SkinnyWarrior and you want to upgrade to the longer version, you don't have to pick up the entire kit separately. You can just pick up the extension, which is this middle part, which is sold separately here at eTrailer. Now, from there you're gonna be able to see the very nice open basket design this basket has. You see that it's got a very nice powder coat finish, which is gonna help resist rust and corrosion. Overall it's just gonna be a very nice sturdy steel construction so it's gonna be very durable. Now even though it's got that nice sturdy steel construction, it's gonna be light weight, coming in at about 27 1/2 pounds so it's gonna be very easy to maneuver around and get it on and off your roof rack.Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, you may need to adjust it and slide it up towards the front of your vehicle in order to gain rear hatch access. Just something you want to keep in mind. Now, it's gonna connect to our roof rack using four of these clamp-on systems.
The top part of the clamp is gonna sit below, and on top, of the ribs of our SkinnyWarrior and it's gonna sit on top of our crossbar. Then this clamp comes underneath, and we have these two bolts with these hand knobs, to tighten it down, and basically pull up on the bottom side of the clamp, and sandwich it down between the top and bottom of our clamps. Now the bottom side of this top clamp is gonna have this nice soft padding, which is gonna help protect our crossbar from any type of scratches or abrasions. Now, I also want to make sure you guys know that when you have your extension in your SkinnyWarrior, you want to have a crossbar spread of at least 30 inches between your two crossbars. Now, if you have anything over that, and up to 60 inches, you can adjust your clamps between the ribs, backwards and all the way to the front, to make sure you can accommodate for many different crossbar spreads. Now I'm gonna give you a couple quick measurements, just for your convenience, to figure out if this is gonna work for you. Now, with the extension, we're gonna measure from inside rail to inside
