Fish are definitely part of a healthy diet, and in fact are the mainstay of animal protein on a Mediterranean diet. Sadly, all fish are not created equal.
The bigger fish like shark, swordfish, tilefish, tuna and King mackerel have high levels of mercury. Mercury is a neurotoxin for which there is no safe limit.
If you very occasionally eat such fish it shouldn't be a problem, but if you enjoy tuna and swordfish fairly regularly you should consider different fish.
Mercury can cause a variety of symptoms, chief amongst them cognitive decline such as brain fog, memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
