VLC 3.0.12 doesn't seem to open / play youtube video stream links reliably anymore on Windows 10, which used to work as far as i can remember. Searching for a fix on the internet, it seems the nightly version of VLC does include a fix for this as an update to it's youtube.lua script file which you just need to copy paste into the right location of the old VLC installed version for it to work.
You can find the nightly youtube.lua script here:

Save it as youtube.lua
Close VLC
Place the youtube.lua file on either
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist"
or
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist"
depending if you're using 64bits of 32bits version of vlc
Don't forget to remove or rename the previous youtube.luac file that you might find in that folder to avoid potential conflicts.
Launch VLC and test opening a youtube url
EDIT:
if you're having issues with vlc not recognizing youtube.lua you can also try to compile youtube.lua into an youtube.luac using an online lua compiler, for example i used [ Ссылка ]
