All eyes are on the District 1 race for Sacramento City Council – even though the election is still five months away. The District 1 seat is currently held by long-time Councilmember Angelique Ashby, who is not running for re-election. That means she will no longer represent District 1 on the Sacramento City Council, which includes part of North Natomas – and after some redistricting, part of north Sacramento. After nearly 12 years, Ashby – who serves as Sacramento Vice Mayor – is now running for State Senate. "I made the decision to run and that means there will be new candidates running for my seat,” Ashby said.
