[ Ссылка ] - President Donald Trump on Wednesday embraced a proposal to slash the number of legal immigrants allowed into the U.S. by 50 percent over 10 years in what would be the biggest overhaul of immigration law in over half a century. The RAISE Act, or Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment, would create a so-called merit-based immigration system that would favor applicants who speak English, have advanced degrees or can demonstrate job skills. We speak with Congressmember Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th District. She formerly served as executive director of OneAmerica, a pro-immigration advocacy group.
