Son of legendary Samoan Fireknife Dancer, Isitolo Oloa; 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2010 World Fireknife Champion; 2012 People's Choice Award winner; and 2012 World Fireknife Championship second place--Miakele Oloa, despite being one of the most pedigree'd fireknife dancers in the world, is also one of the most humble off stage. Not only are Mika and his family great keepers of the fireknife tradition; but they are also great givers of Aloha.
This may be the only performance in which you see Mika's "floating knife" trick, as it was deemed too untraditional and was disqualified for use in the two finals that followed this semi-final performance. Untraditional or not, I thought it looked pretty cool. Way to think out of the box, Mika. Your willingness to take risks and discover new limits is what makes you a champion.
Thanks for all the great entertainment thus far, for keeping the tradition with such style, and for spreading Talofa and Aloha together.
Respect,
Chris
