The essentials when turning to the left: Use constant opposition: Reach back to the right while turning to the left. Use the floor: toes grip and pull the knees into a very minimal muscular preparatory demi-plié; toes of the front foot flic towards supporting toes and immediately connect to the ankle; exhale and push down; keep the supporting shoulder back and connected to the suporting toe; balance with your arms.

We do this in my Beginner Ballet Class at the Ailey Extension in NYC.
