University of Ottawa Public Affairs Professor Patrick Fafard says Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has “very little” political capital.
Mr Trudeau is reportedly close to resigning as his government is in tatters.
“Mr Trump announced on social media a couple of weeks ago a 25 per cent tariff on imports from both Mexico and Canada,” Mr Fafard told Sky News Australia.
“The 25 per cent tariff would be disastrous for both countries.
“One thing is for sure – you want your prime minister to have as much political capital as possible, and Mr Trudeau most certainly has very little right now.”
