Wyatt with Jigging for Giants explains how he uses a Sabiki rig to catch live bait for the 2021 Destin Fishing Rodeo. Live bait, care, and presentation is key to putting big fish in the box when fishing the Gulf of Mexico. We often catch cigar minnows, sardines, threadfin herring, Menhaden (pogies) and use them to catch a variety of fish. As far as Sabiki rigs... There is a big difference in the bite you get with different brands and sizes. My go to is a Hayabusa Sabiki Rig in either a size 6 or 8 for catching bait out of Destin. Our clear water makes the bait fish shy away from cheaper brands that do not use flourocarbon leader and the Hayabusa rigs have wings that refract the sunlight. A one or two ounce bait sinker weight is usually sufficient.
