So after a lot of calculation and research we have come to the following non technical conclusion on the Yamaha R7…number 1 it is not an upgrade from the legendary fire breathing R6, The r6 is something you would purchase with your heart the r7 would be something you purchase with your brain, it the more sensible Yamaha out here, the r6 is the kid with a built up body and tattoos all around, the R7 is the sensible father that has a stable job and has his retirement planned out.
Yamaha has basically pulled out the twin cylinder engine from the Yamaha MT 07, with the similar chassis, changed the riding dynamics’, right in between the R3 and R7, making it sporty but not track focused back breaking focused, 41mm inverted suspension with upgraded brakes, and suddenly you have a MT07 tucked in a proper sport bike.
Its like a difference in riding dynamics between the Interceptor and the Contental GT, they both have the same engine, but the riding dynamic’s give both the bikes a completely different feel.
Now the Yamaha’s coopetitor is the Aprilla RS660, Apart form Yamaha obviously being a far more reliable brand and would be obviously more economical to maintain, The R7 is a massive 2000 dollars cheaper.
The Aprilla is a full-fledged sports bike, which means she delivers her on paper power or punch at high RMPS, Now The R7’s MT07’s engine has torque evenly spread over the power band, which makes her more every day ridable.
Its like comparing the KTM RC390 and an Apache 310RR, The KTM absolutely kills the Apache 310 rr on paper with reference to power and a 0 to 100 race, and that is amazing if you live on a race track your entire life… which obviously is not the case.
The Apache 310 rr is a more sensible every day bike, with far less gear changes required.
So to sum it up, the R7 technically is a sheep in wolfs clothing, and for once this is not a bad thing.
