ESSENZA "June 26th"

On 26th June 2019 the lifeless bodies of Oscar and his daughter Valeria were found on the bank of the Rio Grande, in the muddy water, drowned in the current. They were trying to cross the border between Mexico and the USA. In an attempt to save her, the young father tightened his daughter to him, under his shirt. And so they were found. The young man from San Salvador, like many others, was desperate for a dignified life for himself and his family.
“June 26th” tells their story, imagining the words that Oscar would have addressed to his little girl in the future, dead instead just 23 months old.

Il 26 giugno 2019 i corpi senza vita di Oscar e di sua figlia Valeria sono stati ritrovati sulla riva del Rio Grande, riversi nell’acqua melmosa, dopo essere stati travolti dalla corrente mentre cercavano di attraversare il confine tra Messico e Stati Uniti. Nel tentativo di salvarla, il padre aveva stretto la figlia a sé, proteggendola nella sua maglietta. È così che li hanno ritrovati. Il giovane di San Salvador, come tanti, era alla disperata ricerca di una vita dignitosa per sé e la sua famiglia.
“June 26th” racconta la loro storia, immaginando le parole che Oscar avrebbe voluto rivolgere in futuro alla sua bimba, morta a soli 23 mesi.
