Vaccines policies are crucial to maintaining public health interventions for children Under-5 years. Such policies provide a safe, cost-effective, and an efficient way to prevent vaccine related morbidity and mortality in infants and under-5's. In 2013, Save the Children along with partners supported the Nigerian Government to develop and launch a new Routine Immunization Strategic Plan, that would chart the course of all Immunization activities in the country. This plan takes into account the introduction of newly introduced vaccines, bridging the equity gap through mass sensitization campaigns and revamping of the cold chain structure. The Plan also includes a framework for validation of data and the enforcement of accountability within the immunization sector. This video highlights the fact that while progress has been made in the last decade, the gains in Routine immunization are still fragile and must be sustained.
