(13 Jul 2014) Anti-World Cup demonstrators gathered in central Rio de Janeiro on Sunday ahead of the final between Germany and Argentina.
One protester wearing a Brazil football shirt held up a placard reading: "Freedom for imprisoned demonstrators".
Roads were closed around the Maracana Stadium in Rio and military helicopters buzzed overhead, with Brazilian authorities still wary that the violent protests that marred last year's Confederations Cup warm-up event may reappear.
The protesters who many feared would harm Brazil's World Cup party have largely failed to show up throughout the tournament.
But for Sunday's final, authorities have ordered the deployment of more than 25,000 officers and soldiers, the largest security detail in Brazil's history.
