Chartreuse dye was added to water sprayed from a special KB-29 tanker in front of this USAF B-66 bomber. When the water formed ice deposits on the B-66, its effects could be seen more clearly due to the dye. The cockpit windscreen panels are ice-free; the underwing fuel tank shows an accumulation.
The B-66, while bearing superficial resemblance to Douglas' A3D Skywarrior, is substantially a different airplane. At least one B-66 was said to have been shot down in an apparent border breach caused by navigation equipment malfunction in Europe.
