They are technically both soft pastels, BUT pan pastels are compressed in a pan whereas the other ones are compressed in a crayon. They feel different and they paint differently! "Pan Pastel vs. Soft Pastel - My FIRST Self-Portrait Attempt!" is not a pan pastel tutorial, but it follows mostly my first experience with soft pastels, and as I do that I compare it with my previous pan pastel portrait painting experience.
