Esports had another rough weekend, this time not because of any players, but because of the owner of one of the largest esports organizations and the person (ahem, dick head) that he chose to hang out with.
After G2 won a CS:GO world championship, G2’s CEO CarlosR, or Carlos Ocelote, posted a video of him drinking and partying in a nightclub.
However, eagle eyed viewers quickly spotted out the face of Andrew Tate the self described “Top G” who has been the face of online misogyny so much so that most major platforms have moved to remove him from their social sites.
Once the blowback started rolling in, and CarlosR started realizing that people may not want total assholes like Tate involved in esports (since, ya know, we already have to deal with Thorin)
G2 was forced to take measures. It seems like the organization has suspended CarlosR for 8 weeks without paying, saying in a statement
“The actions of our CEO spoke a language in stark contrast with the values and the culture G2 lives by and strives for.”
Now, the real question is, will this actually send the message that esports needs to get rid of the same assholes that aren’t tolerated in other spaces?
