The Top 30 songs with 5 extras by James Taylor, Carly Simon, the Bellamy Brothers, Manfred Mann's Earth Band and Wet Willie from the 1979 singles charts of Billboard, Cash Box and Record World magazines for weeks ending July 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Unlike for my books, Ranking the ‘60s and Ranking the ‘70s (with Bill Carroll), in which a weighted ranking system was used, I used a simple reverse ranking system, assigning 1 point to No. 30, 2 points to No. 29, etc. I kept it simple since we’re dealing with four weeks rather than a longer duration, like a year.
