#hamradio #antenna #installation
You might recall that earlier this year, my brother, Wayne, W4KWM, and I installed a ZS6BKW multi-band HF antenna for my friend, Wendell, K5WAN. Here is a link: [ Ссылка ]
In this video, my son, Joshua, KN4LFU, and I install a new antenna mast for Wendell’s Comet GP-9, VHF/UHF antenna. Wendell lives in a very remote area. He has access to only a couple repeaters, but the signals to and from those repeaters are not very strong. His GP-9 is only about 15 feet above ground. Thankfully, MFJ donated a 33 ft. telescopic mast for this project, and KB9JQU donated 62 ft. of LMR-400 coaxial cable. The 50 ft. coaxial cable will connect from the lightning arrestor to the antenna and the 12 ft. coaxial cable will go from the lightning arrestor to the Yaesu FTM-400DR transceiver.
Our objective was to improve Wendell’s access to some key repeaters that participate in Skywarn nets. Wendell has a background as a storm chaser for an Oklahoma TV station, and he is one of the principal net control operators for the Hurricane Watch Net. The challenge is that two of the main repeaters we want coverage for are 66 miles away. We used the technique I teach in the video at this link to achieve success: [ Ссылка ]

Most videos are visible to the Patreon team members long before they are released for public viewing. Some videos are never released for public viewing. Yearly S7 (Executive) and S9 (VIP) members have access to the menu optimizations PDFs I’ve written for the FT-891, FT-991A, FTdx5000MP, FTdx101D/MP, FTdx10, and FT-710 AESS. Yearly S7 (Executive) members can receive one menu optimizations PDF while yearly S9 (VIP) members can receive multiple menu optimizations documents, plus my FT8 configuration guide for either the FTdx10 or the FT-710 AESS. Future radios might be added. The documents are copyrighted. They shall not be divulged to anyone else without written permission from Doug McAlexander, callsign N4HNH.
N4HNH Radio has a Web site where you can purchase T-shirts with some of the sayings you might hear in the videos. Some of the more prominent videos are featured there as well as a page geared toward ham radio training. Go to: [ Ссылка ]
