The Apollo 11 NASA mission launched from Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969. Apollo 11 was carrying Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. The primary objective of the NASA Apollo 11 mission was to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961 to perform alunar landing and return to Earth.
This event was televised and an estimated 650 million people watched Neil Armstrong's televised image and heard his voice describe the July 20th, 1969 event as he took and made the statement "...one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".
