(23 Jan 2020) Venezuela's opposition leader said he is seeking support to crack down on illegal gold mining in the south of his country, calling the activities "blood gold".
Juan Guaidó was addressing reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, whene he was asked what help he expected from the Swiss government.
"It's a big opportunity to stop the blood gold, illegal extraction of Venezuela, stop that crisis in the south of the country because they finance illegal groups with that illegal money," he said.
Guaidó also said he was seeking support for human rights and the refugee crisis in Venezuela.
Meanwhile Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told reporters that his time at WEF had been "very successful".
Çavuşoğlu told a panel Wednesday that Turkey will continue to work with Russia in Syria, despite standing on opposing sides of the conflict.
