The number of people waiting for care in the UK - whether home visits or places in local authority homes - has nearly doubled in a year because of carer shortages.
On the day of ITV News' survey, ten thousand people were waiting. And they are not just statistics.
They could be any one of us, like Myra and Florence marooned in a care home, stripped of their independence because there isn't anyone to help them live at home.
