Advantages of Glass Ionomer

* Only a small amount of healthy tooth structure is removed.
* A good match to tooth colour, especially with resin-modified glass ionomer cements.
* Placement simplicity
* Usage versatility
* Without the use of a bonding agent, it bonds exceptionally well to the tooth surface.
* Light curing causes immediate hardening.
* Fluoride is released over time.
Disadvantages
* Low durability – more susceptible to fracture and wear than composites
* Tensile strength is lower than that of composites.
* Shade ranges are limited in comparison to composites.
