KING ROPES, live at The Rialto Theater, Bozeman, MT. 2/2/18
The Montana base band KING ROPES perches uneasily between Indie, Desert Rock, and ragged Americana. Nothing too refined, this is music full of open spaces and jagged edges. One hears echos of Pavement, Queens of the Stone Age, The Velvet Underground, and Kurt Vile.
"...a musical revelation. It’s music that sounds as if it’s played by dead cowboys. Like Tom Waits, the vocal performance is eccentric but highly sophisticated. The lyrics are clearly the work of songwriter(s) that know the rules well enough to be able to toss them out the window. Much like a Tim Burton movie, it’s a jolly ride through hell and back." - Alt 77
"Occupying the same melodic space as Purple Mountains or Lambchop, ("Girls Like Us") sways with an inherent grace and echoes through the deep chambers of your heart. " - Beats Per Minute
"If Gram Parsons cast “cosmic country,” Hollier is cosmic rock-western; not Tex Ritter, more like spacy, discombobulated art rock and folk-pop." - The Big Takeover
