This video shows us installing a Frigidaire FFRE1233Q1 Energy Star 12,000-BTU 115V Window Mounted Compact Air Conditioner into a 2nd-floor horizontal sliding window (maybe also called a "casement window"). Read more:
Air conditioning units like this are NOT made for this type of window. But this type of AC is the best value (very effective, very efficient, and definitely cheaper and more widely available than casement AC units). So we wanted to hack together a solution.
After getting all the extra parts, it took the 2 of us more than an hour to install, and we already had the experience of doing this exact same installation before (because we already installed the 10,000 BTU version [Frigidaire FFRE1033Q1] in our bedroom, which had an identical window).
No ladder required. No contraptions nailed into the outside of the house, either.
I WISH someone had made a video like this for us before we tried to do this the first time. For our bedroom unit, it took a month of planning + tons of stress and aggravation + countless trips to hardware stores trying to figure out how we would do this + hours of installation.
