[31] Heat test on three types of resin coasters (Art Resin-Mastercast 1-2-1, Ultracast XT)
These coasters were all poured on the 23rd May 2018 and left to cure for 5 weeks before undertaking this test on 27th June 2018.
I test the coasters with mugs filled with boiled water from a kettle, at 1 minute, 3 minutes and 5 minutes. Then I test Ultracast XT with a spoon heated up in a flame.
Feel free to skip through the video as it is pretty boring watching a clock tick by. Time stamps are given. The video was not speeded up to keep the integrity of the test. This is the nature of this type of video so just be aware.
Results surprised me.
I make a reference to a previous video in which I discuss amine blush issues with Ultracast XT. See video number 25: [ Ссылка ]. Further advice has been received from Eli-Chem suggesting a warm water bath for the resin and hardener prior to pouring. So far, this has worked for me and I have had no more amine blush :)
Ultracast XT is claimed to have a heat resistance of 90 - 95Deg.C.
In case you are wondering I labeled each coaster with sharpie pen - since Ultracast is thinner and takes longer to cure, it has smudged the most. Also- they are painted black and white as I thought any damage might show up more obviously over one or the other colour. Plus I have plans to undertake a sunlight test soon.
Ultracast XT and Mastercast 121 are available via Eli-Chem resins (in Australia it is available through www.resinit.com.au/ultra-cast-xt/ and [ Ссылка ]
Art Resin is available through various sources online.
