The historical memory of a people must always be kept alive and with this video I' ve wanted to give a very small personal contribution in this sense, bringing together some known images of the advance on Leghorn (Livorno), Italy, and of the entry into the city, that during the Second World War, like many others, suffered numerous bombings, destructions, and human losses and that was liberated by the U.S. 5th Army and by the Italian Partisans on July 19, 1944.
The 5th Army approached Leghorn from 3 directions, the first from the South, along the coastal highway 1, via Aurelia, (descending on Leghorn from Castellaccio, above Montenero, and entering the center of Livorno from Marradi street, the second from the South-East, along the via Emilia (descending on Leghorn from the Gabbro village and entering Leghorn by crossing the railway level passage of via di Salviano towards the hospital), the third from the East, before along the road that crosses Riparbella - Castellina Marittima – Santa Luce - Orciano Pisano- Torretta and than from Torretta along the Collesalvetti - Leghorn road (heading to Leghorn from Cisternino road). For moore see: [ Ссылка ] .
The Images have been taken from news films and photographs of the U.S. Army and Air Force, indicating for each the names of the streets that appear in the video.
The music is:
''Cavalleria Rusticana – Intermezzo'' – music composer : Maestro Pietro Mascagni – orchestra director : Maestro Riccardo Muti.
[CORRECTION: regarding the photograph at 04:09 the tank is in front of the entrance to the side in Carducci avenue of villa Bertocchini and not in front of the entrance to the side in Galilei street of villa Bertocchini - (see the photo, of which it is a part, at 00-48 of the video '' The street market in XX Settembre square at Leghorn (Livorno), Italy, during and after WWII'' : [ Ссылка ] ) ].
