Supporters of former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose were in jubilant mood at the premises of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday morning. Their reason was the decision of the court to grant the former Governor bail from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, where he has been kept since last week Tuesday.
The court granted the-Governor who left office last week bail in the sum of fifty million naira with one surety. Justice Mojisola Olatoregun while delivering her ruling on the the bail application said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission failed to convince the court on why the request should not be granted.
Justice Olatoregun said the Former Governor should deposit his international passport to the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court as part of the bail condition. The Judge also said Fayose must swear to an affidavit that he will not do anything to frustrate the court proceedings or intimidate witnesses that will be called for the trial.
Fayose and his company, Spotless Limited, had pleaded not guilty to the eleven-count charge of conspiracy and money laundering levelled against them by the EFCC when the former Governor was first arraigned on Monday October 22, 2018.
