(10 Feb 2014) A vehicle carrying an Australian woman convicted of smuggling marijuana into Indonesia arrived at a luxury resort on Monday after being trailed by media from the prison where she was released on parole earlier in the day.
35 year-old Schapelle Corby arrived at the Sentosa Seminyak villas, a resort on the Indonesian island of Bali on Monday afternoon, the latest chapter in what has been a media sensation in her home country since her arrest in 2005.
After arriving at the resort just outside the city of Denpasar, security blocked access to the entrance and media gathered outside.
Corby's release from prison was carried live on TV networks across Australia and plastered on websites of the nation's major newspapers.
Corby was convicted of smuggling 4.2 kilogrammes (9 pounds) of marijuana onto Bali in a boogie board bag and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
In 2010, she asked for clemency, citing her poor mental state.
Two years later, Indonesia's president cut her sentence by five years.
Her release comes after an announcement on Friday by Indonesia's Justice Ministry that she had been granted parole.
Corby will have to stay in Bali and cannot return to Australia until 2017.
