The European Stroke Organization (ESO) and European Academy Neurology (EAN) joint guidelines on post-stroke cognitive impairment were published in September 2021, setting out evidence-based recommendations to assist healthcare professionals in their decision-making regarding prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Specific recommendations were made where high-level evidence from randomized clinical trials was available and expert consensus statements made on topics where strong evidence was lacking. Terence Quinn, MD, MRCP, MBCHB (hons), University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK, talks on the knowledge gaps highlighted by the development of these guidelines. Post-stroke cognitive impairment has become a greater research priority in recent years and evidence from ongoing large international trials will help answer questions in key areas. This interview took place at the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC), 2021.
