'Belphégor is a 1927 silent French adventure film, directed by Henri Desfontaines.
Synopsis
The film is divided into four episodes:
1 - The Mystery of the Louvre
A ghost was seen at the Louvre Museum and a guard was found dying near the statue of Belphegor, a Moabite deity . Inspector Ménardier is in charge of the investigation, but the case also interests Detective Chantecoq and a young journalist, Jacques Bellegarde.
This episode was shot in part at the Louvre 2 museum , at the Paris police headquarters , and at the Petit Parisien premises .
2 - The treasure of the Valois
Bellegarde is suspected by Ménardier, but he manages to return to investigate at the Louvre. Belphégor also appears at the home of actress Simone Desroches, who had an affair with Bellegarde.
3 - The Black Ghost
Belphégor still eludes Ménardier, but Chantecoq and Bellegarde make progress in their investigation by discovering an old grimoire and an underground connecting the Louvre to the Church of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois.
In addition to scenes shot in the Louvre and in this church, this episode includes shots in a castle in the Paris region.
4 - The Two Police
Simone Desroches dies and Belphégor takes possession of her remains during the funeral wake. He then kidnaps Colette, Chantecoq's daughter.
This episode was partly shot in the castle of the previous episode, at the Paris courthouse, and at the Eiffel Tower.
