Following E class tram No.6031 up Plenty Road on Melbourne's Route 86. The video starts just past Miller/Dundas streets in Preston, and continues to the start of the reserved track section in Reservoir. Most of the tram stops on this part of Plenty Rd are the most basic type found in Melbourne, with only a sign on the footpath. Passengers are required to cross the outer lane of traffic, which can be very dangerous when motorists don't do the right thing. The relevant road rule (from the Vicroads website) is as follows: "When there isn't a safety zone and the tram doors on your side of the road are open, you must stop at the rear of the tram until the doors close and the road is free of pedestrians. Once the tram's doors are closed and all pedestrians have left the road, you can pass the tram. You are not allowed to drive faster than 10 km/h when passing a stopped tram which has its doors closed."
I filmed this with a GoPro balanced on the dash board - as you can see, it nearly fell off a few times when I accelerated. Filmed 17/8/19.
