Hi I'm max and today we're going to talk about how to adjust a pressure switch for an air compressor!
Pressure switches are used to keep the pressure in the tank between a preset lower and upper pressure. When the pressure exceeds the upper or lower limit, an electrical switch is triggered. In this video, we explain how to set the upper and lower limits.
For these steps you need a screwdriver and two free hands.
Step 1: For safety, turn off the power before you start. For this video, the Condor MDR 5 pressure switch is used as an example. Your switch may be set up slightly different, but the same adjustment concepts should apply.
Step 2: Remove the cap. You can see the connection points for the motor and the power supply. You can also see a spring with a dial that is used to set both the turn-off and the switch-on pressures. Now remove the safety pin.
Step 3: To find the right settings, it is important to use a secondary pressure reading. For example, use a calibrated manometer to read the pressure in the system. Turn the button to the right to increase the turn-off pressure or to the left to lower the turn-off pressure.
Step 4: Press the dial now to set the pressure difference between the turn-off pressure and the switch-on pressure. So, if you want a switch-on pressure of 3.5 bar and a switch-off pressure of 4.5 bar then set the turn-off pressure to 4.5 bar and the pressure difference at 1 bar. The pressure switch then switches on at 3.5 bar. Note that adjusting the pressure and pressure difference might require a few turns of the button.
Step 5: Put the safety pin back on the pressure switch and place the cap back. Your pressure switch is now set!
Please note that some pressure switches have three springs, two for the switch-on pressure and one for the pressure difference. So you have to set it in a slightly different way, but the principle remains the same.
If you have any questions about setting up your pressure switch, please contact me or anyone else from Tameson!
