Nuclear Business Platform spoke with George Borovas, Head of Nuclear from Hunton Andrews Kurth on the future of nuclear energy in Europe.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has ironically led to more European countries looking at adopting nuclear for energy security. Europe currently imports 60% of its energy needs. Prior to the Ukraine crisis, European countries have started to recognise the role which nuclear energy can play in achieving net zero and combating climate change. The need to transition to a low-carbon and sustainable energy adoption coupled with the urgency to achieve energy independence has led to a revival in interest for nuclear energy on the continent.
George Borovas is head of the firm’s Nuclear practice and Managing Partner of the Tokyo office. George advises governments, lenders and sponsors on the development of civilian nuclear power programs and the financing and construction of nuclear power plants globally.
