Experts have warned that the devastating forest fire will have a long lasting impact on the ecosystem of not just Uttarakhand, but the entire country. The carbon particle that emanating from the flames of the which have consumed thousands of hectres of forest can result in melting of glaciers which is a major lifeline for north Indian rivers. Carbons from this smoke and ash is covering the glaciers and might cause them to melt faster. The fires which have already burned for over two months have already caused massive damage to the fauna. Uttarakhand forest fire has claimed the life of Police constable Pankaj Chauhan who was killed while fighting the fire on the outskirts of Chamoli. The State and central officials have claimed that the majority of the area under fire is now under control. Four people have been arrested and 46 cases have been filed aunder the forest act.On monday the fire also spread across state borders to Rejouri in Jammu & kashmir as well as part of Himachal Pradesh. A school in Kasoli was evacuated after the fire reached its premises. A midnight fire also broke out at cemetery near Shimla. The M17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force has been deployed in the state of Uttarakhand to carry water from the Bhimtal Lake to douse the flames.The raging inferno in Uttarakhand that has witnessed the worst has put under control, which has turned more than 3000 hectres of forest into ash.
