How to protect coconut tree from rats ?

In a previous video I was able to film one lonely rodent in one of our Coconut trees. It was chewing away on one of our nuts, and had a wonderful time away from our cats.

Today I am taking action and have already done the following:

First all our Coconut trees where cleaned for old twigs and palm branches.

Second all coconuts that we would be able to sell where picked. These we will sell and the income will be used to pay my friends (Jan and Jun-Jun who was my worker for today.)

Third - we installed a rat guard around the trunks of most of our Coconut trees.

Now, lets see if those rats will be back. Hopefully these guards will prevent most rats from climbing the trees, and hopefully the many cats our family have will take care of the rest.

I was truly happy with the result. It looks clean now and my I say a little more professional. Only time will tell if this reduces the few rats around here.
