Monocular patients are justifiably nervous with discussions about operating on their only good eye. These patients are worried that in the rare chance that something happens to their good eye during surgery, they will be left sightless. When we have these patients in our clinic, we need to channel empathy and compassion so that we can understand their mindset and then make a clinical decision together. Remember that I only want to cook dinner for people who are hungry -- that means that I only want to perform elective surgery for patients who truly desire it. In this video I share my best pearls for understanding and helping these monocular patients so that we can restore their good eye to even better vision.
