With the union budget less than a week away, expectations are high from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. While expectations are high in all quarters, one segment that is eagerly awaiting some relief in the budget is the salaried taxpayer. The latter has not received any significant relief over the last couple of budgets, particularly, in terms of changes in the income tax slab. So what changes can taxpayers expect from the Union Budget and which way will the budget lean - will it be pragmatic and pro-growth or will it lean towards populism given that this is the last full fledged budget of the Modi government before it heads into the general elections next year.
