Sims 1
Fire is one of the most unpleasant things that can happen to your Sims in The Sims 1. The most common fire accidents in The Sims 1 are cooking accidents. Cooking on cheap stoves, with little to no cooking skill is definitely on the top of the list. Fireplaces are also a pretty big danger, especially if there are object near them. Sure way to start a fire in The Sims 1 is launching a rocket set in the house. The best investment in The Sims is smoke detector, this way a firefighter will come immediately and successfully extinguish the fire.
Sims 2
Cooking on cheap stove with low skill can result in a fire. Leaving the stove or oven mid cooking will always result in fire. Grilling inside will always cause a fire. Placing objects too close to a fireplace can potentially catch on fire. same thing can happen to nearby objects when burning raked leaves or during a bonfire. Sims can place fire sprinklers above an oven or a fireplace to extinguish the fire. Sims that have a smoke detector, in case of fire, a firefighter will come to your lot in a fire truck and extinguishing the fire.
Sims 3
One of the most common way to start a fire is by cooking on cheap stove with low cooking skill. Leaving the food mid cooking on the stove will result in fire. Fireplaces are also a big danger if there are object nearby. Sims can also catch on fire while blowing out candles, smashing a Jack-o'-lantern that has not been extinguished, using fireworks indoors, daring someone to "Divide by Zero" etc.. in case of fire, Sims can try to put out the fire themselves, or if they have a smoke detector, fire firefighters will come to your lot in a fire truck and extinguish the fire.
Sims 4
In The Sims 4, some of the most common ways to start a fire are lighting a fireplace that has flammable objects nearby. Having objects near a campfire or lighting an incense holder can have the same effect. If a Sim uses a rocket ship that has been previously messed with by stuffing the exhaust port with fruit, it will always crash when landing. Leaving the food on the stove mid cooking, won't start a fire. but cooking on cheap stove with low cooking skill definitely can. Sims can place a fire sprinkler panel anywhere on the lot. When fire breaks, a sprinkler will automatically appear on the ceiling above the fire and extinguish it without creating puddles. The smoke detector will alarm the fire department without the need to call them. after the Firefighters extinguish the fire, you'll be reimbursed for the damages, and the firefighters will leave.
