My father, George Wald, gave this speech in opposition to the Vietnam War on March 4, 1969. Until that evening he was known as a biologist; after that evening, he was trying to save the world. This speech, given with little preparation and only a few notes on index cards, was shortly reprinted all over the world and changed his life, my life, and quite a few other lives.
