EMT is the entry-level position in the ambulance service. Most aspiring EMTs enroll in programs at community colleges, EMS academies, or local hospitals. After completing EMT school and graduating, you'll need to pass the National Registry exam (NREMT) to become certified as an EMT. Once you've successfully passed both your course and the NREMT exam, you submit your documents to the state, which will then issue your license to practice as an EMT.
