The Nitecore NTP20 is more than just a pen; it is a writing instrument that can also be used as a self-defence tool and for emergencies.
For example, an emergency situation may arise when you find yourself stuck in a car with windows that cannot be wound down. To smash the windows and escape, the Nitecore NTP20 is at your bidding.
A normal pen or pencil can obviously be used as a weapon.
However, perhaps not quite as perceived by many as seen in the movies. For instance, there is an “exploding pen” used by James Bond (played by Pierce Brosnan) in the 1995 movie “Goldeneye”. In actual fact, it is termed a “Class 4 grenade” by “Q”.
In the 2003 movie “Johnny English”, Rowan Atkinson who plays the main lead, none other than Johnny English, accidentally fires a pen and knocks out a secretary.
Perhaps a more realistic situation arose when Jason Bourne (played by Matt Damon) in the 2002 movie “Bourne Identity” uses a pen on a desk as an improvised weapon to fend off an assassin armed with a knife.
A more extreme situation when a pen is used as a weapon was seen in the 1995 movie “Casino” when mobster Nicky Santoro (played by Joe Pesci) brutally stabs a man who was rude to Sam “Ace” Rothstein (played by Robert De Niro).
Even a pencil is able to maim and kill as seen in the 2014 movie “John Wick”. John Wick (played by Keanu Reeves) grabs not one but two pencil on a desk and uses each as an improvised weapon resulting in deadly consequences to his assailants.
As such, a pen, pencil, scissors or letter opener can be used as an improvised self-defence tool.
However, do note that such improvised weapons from pens or pencils are used for stabbing and not smashing.
This is where Nitecore’s NTP20 which features a lightweight and sturdy titanium barrel and grips comes into play with its tungsten steel tapered tip.
Basically, this pen was designed and made as a self-defence tool for close-quarters combat and for smashing glass with its tungsten steel tapered tip for emergency escapes.
This Nitecore NTP20 came with an extra ink refill, of which four colours were offered: red, blue, black and green. We opted for the green Schneider gel ink refill.
Nitecore is the company that produces rugged and robust flashlights with extreme brightness.
Now will we ever use the Nitecore NTP20?
Of course, we use it as a pen. As an everyday carry pen or self-defence “concealed carry” instrument, who knows, it might even come in real handy the day when someone is tempted to target our wristwatches.
