Osteopath Ashley Ridout talks through the different types of foam rollers and which ones he likes the most.
Foam rollers should be an essential part of any training program, no matter what the sport, whether running, martial arts cycling or even swimming.
Foam rolling helps to reduce muscular and fascial tightness and therefore help to either prevent injury or recover from an injury.
There are different types of foam rollers ranging from the cheapest and most basic all the way through to the more expensive rollers such as the Rumble Roller.
A basic foam roller will retail for around £12 which will be sufficient for most infrequent exercisers or foam roller users.
The Reebok foam roller (the green one in the video) will retail around £24 for the long one.
The Trigger Point Therapy roller comes in long or short like the others and also a variety of colours. The colours are purely aesthetic and make no difference to the firmness.
Last but not least is the Rumble Roller. This one feels amazing and also totally different to a normal flat roller due to the nodules. It looks pretty savage but actually doesn't feel as bad as it looks. The Ruble Roller comes in 2 colours; Original Blue, and Firm Black. We would suggest the black roller over the blue one.
The Rumble Roller also comes in shorter versions like most other foam rollers, however the shorter versions are also thinner so bear this in mind when purchasing.
