Cardinal George Pell is returning to the Vatican for the first time since he was cleared of child abuse allegations in April.
The 79-year-old was seen in Sydney Airport on Tuesday night travelling alone, with New South Wales officers transporting him through an entrance not used by the public.
The Vatican did not provide details on why the Cardinal was returning or for how long.
