Hidden Gem Series, Episode 1 : The Pirate Tower, Laguna Beach.

Nestled on the side of a cliff on Victoria Beach, rests a 60-foot tower, known to many locals as the “Pirate Tower.”

History:
Built in 1926, the 60-foot tower reaches from the edge of the water up to the top of the cliff where the house sits, holding a private staircase inside for the owners to use to access the beach. It was built along with the house on top of the cliff in the 1920s for William E. Brown, a Los Angeles senator. The home and tower is built in “Norman-style,” which is a popular architectural style from France.

How to get there:
Park along Pacific Coast Highway close to Casa Laguna Hotel and look for Victoria drive on the PCH. If you walk down the road for quarter mile, you will see the cross road, sunset terrace on the Victoria drive. The stairway is currently closed for the construction. If you go down another 200 feet, you will see Dumond Drive and take a right turn there and you will see the Victoria beach. The pirate tower is on the right side of the entrance after crossing the rocks. Go during the low tides. Normally the tower is inaccessible after 5PM due to high tides.
