The Public Works Department (PWD) demolished a 100-year-old bridge in Thane, Maharashtra. The authority used explosives to tear down the structure. The bridge over Kalu River connected Murbad and Shahapur areas in Thane district. The bridge was in a dilapidated condition and declared dangerous for use because of which officials were forced to take the structure down. The step was taken after an audit declared the bridge as dangerous. A proposal to construct a new bridge will soon be sent by authorities.
