I was always a PC user, I played games on it, like that maple story stuff every 11 year old Asian American kid did. OH YEAH, and it wasn’t until 2010 that I got to use an apple computer extensively and then decided to use it in bootcamp mode, windows on a mac. But in 2016 after having adventures with windows laptops being space heaters, or having graphics cards act up, I switched to a macbook to see if the grass was actually greener on the other side, and now, I can see the grass isn’t greener, it’s just another shade of green. So, let’s talk about my 2 year journey with macs, the good, the bad, and the windows. Let’s get started.
Macs are interesting the moment you turn them on, with older models screaming so loud that it could even wake up half of the continental United States. They have a really interesting layout and the bottom dock is organized very minimalisticly, but at the same time functional, with the little black dot on the bottom indicating what is active. The icons all look nicely styled with a clean design and animations compared to the windows style that was cool on their phones in 2010, but now just looks like someone had too much fun cutting up some construction paper making these designs. The integration between ios and mac os is great, providing you the ability to share content between the two, making it very easy to switch between devices with apple’s services. Most keyboard shortcuts are the same as their windows equivalents, but instead of ctrl+C to copy, you use command+c. You command it to copy. Like how they command you to pay 1,100 for a new iphone. While the Mac OS ecosystem isn’t as robust as windows, everything runs really well, and in many situations, I love mac os and apple build quality much more than I ever loved windows. The overall presentation of the machine’s build and operating system design really sell you on a mac, and how it functions in conjunction with other apple devices, like iphones, ipads, and apple watches makes it a really amazing integrated product.
But I definitely do love a lot about windows, too. For example, on mac os, there are these street light icons that work similarly to close, minimize, and maximize on a pc. But on a Mac these are close, minimize, and FULL SCREEN, your dock? Gone, finding out what apps are open? Gone. The 3,000 emails you swore you were going to respond to? Gone. The time? Gone. Windows does a much better job at this because you can still access your applications that are open on the task bar on the bottom. I don’t want to have to wait a few extra milliseconds to switch to a different application, I want it now. It’s really detrimental to my productivity, and a bit annoying, I rarely use this button because of it. If you want to “maximize” a screen, you have to actually stretch the window across the screen like a cave man. Next, most applications that have a mac os app, probably has a windows app, but it’s never vice versa, windows is ten times more versatile when it comes to sheer amount of software that works with it, and that’s a non-debatable. You like games? You play games? Too bad, most games are on PC and macs have astronomically bad gaming performance to dollar ratio. Windows also has a superior file management system that is basically a pyramid and easy to navigate with each file taking up a specific tile. Yet Mac OS is a mess. Why is this possible to do this? This is an application, right? Nope. It’s a package, a program but you can only access its contents by right clicking. Why? It’s not user friendly in that regard. Lastly, windows machines come in all shapes and sizes, want a brick for a laptop, here you go. Want a brick for a desktop? Here you go. Love hot wheels? Here you go. The customizability and versatility of windows machines are limitless and is definitely its largest selling point.
Each one does something different really well and stands out in some way. Personally, for laptops I really enjoy using macs. It helps that the computer feels nice, the os looks pretty, and it can run windows if I need it. But I LOVE windows machines because it’s so customizable, let’s me play games, gives me plenty of options, and keeps me from being distracted. So, there isn’t a clear answer. There’s just machines I prefer to use during different tasks and that’s it.
Anyway guys, what do you think? Is there one you prefer? Why do you feel that way? Leave that in the comment section below, if you enjoyed this video, give it a thumbs up, and don’t forget to subscribe. I’ll see you guys next time.
