On this edition of Jalopnik First Drive, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. The new Crosstrek Wilderness makes for a great entry point into the world of off-roading.
The Crosstrek Wilderness is Subaru’s latest model to get the off-road-ready treatment and sits at the top of the car’s 2024 lineup. To make this range-topping Crosstrek, the Japanese automaker added a raft of updates over the regular Crosstrek. For starters, the Wilderness only comes with the top-of-the-line 2.5 liter boxer engine that kicks out 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which Subaru has tweaked to offer performance more suited to off-road driving. The final drive ratio is higher at 4.11 (versus 3.7 in the standard car), which provides more low-speed torque.
