Several trigger points can form in this muscle, typically referring pain (and sometimes stiffness) into the medial plantar aspect of the foot, and diffuse pain spread over one or both of the gasters.
In some cases pain may also refer up into the medial hamstrings. Typically, clients will try to stretch the symptoms away. This is more likely to irritate the muscle spindle response and serve only to make the problem worse.
Trigger points in the calf muscles are typically caused by running, sprinting, jumping, climbing, or the wearing of high heels for long periods of time, or the extended use of foot rests (ex. Driving).
