Countryfile's Matt Baker reveals the 'difficult' family decisions he had to make and admits 'it's the end' in latest series of Travels with Mum and Dad

Matt Baker revealed he had to make 'difficult' family decisions in the latest series of his hit show Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad.

The presenter, 46, opened up about his family dynamic in his show which sees him exploring the north of England with his parents, Janice and Mike.

In the first episode, the trio headed to the Northumberland County Show - the biggest annual celebration of rural life in North East England and saw Matt's mother entering their two dogs in to a competition.
The former One Show presenter presenter and his family have regularly featured in shows together having previously starred in Matt Baker's Our Farm in the Dales.

In an interview with The Daily Express, Matt expressed his excitement about working with his parents again and opened up on some of the challenging decisions they've had to make while filming.
Matt explained that the show focuses on smaller days out rather than going abroad or away for long periods of time.

He said: 'The key with it is they [his parents] are always close to home because obviously, having a farm you can't go far. And plus, with the dad being like 80, the reality of them planning to go on some sort of adventure was never going to be the case.'

The TV show presenter hoped that people would find his show inspiring and it could encourage families to look into day trips that included every generation.

He said: 'We're not going abroad, and it's actually really relatable, and hopefully, from my generation's perspective, I'm kind of inspiring people to take the older members of their family out, to get these new experiences and to have fun and just to be together and experience stuff that they wouldn't really do themselves.'

Despite the success of Matt's shows, the Countryfile host has not committed to another series.

He told the paper that the end of his latest series was a 'natural end of a chapter'.

He explained that he had not planned to stop there but felt it was the right time.

Elaborating on the matter he said: 'So that's why we didn't sort of decide to stop filming it, it's just the end of that process.'
The presenter explained that for his hist shows including Our Farm in the Dales, Matt hadn't intended to film anything at all, explaining that he was struggling with a lot of big family decisions at the time and was candid with producers and TV channels about his worries.

The channel directors then asked him if he would like to film his farm experience and Matt was delighted.

He was shocked that his show was met with such praise and believed it was down to his realistic portrayal of farm life rather than only showing viewers the romantic side of things.

He added that he thought it was important for viewers to see the difficult family decisions that were being made including his mother's decision to change direction on the farm.

Matt continued that he had received thousands of correspondence from people praising the show and telling him that difficult family discussions are hard whether your dealing with the realities of farming or not and they had found his show a comfort.

Matt's positive filming experience comes as a contrast to his time on Strictly Come Dancing.

The media personality recently revealed that his experience was a lot 'more intense' than other celebrities who have appeared in the competition.

The TV presenter made it to the final on the scandal-hit BBC series in 2010 with Russian pro dancer Aliona Vilani, but came second.
Despite his success on the dancing show, Matt admitted he hasn't stayed in touch with anyone from his cohort.

His confession comes after Aliona admitted to forcing Matt to dance through sickness during his time on the show.

While turning up for rehearsals and appearing on the live show every weekend, Matt was juggling The One Show and Countryfile at the same time.

He admitted his stint on the show came at a 'busy time' for him which made his experience 'more intense'.

Matt told the Metro: 'I don’t think anybody in the history of Strictly has had a more intense experience than me when you look at all of the work I was doing at the same time.'

During his experience, it was reported at the time that during one rehearsal for their Viennese Waltz Aliona spun Matt so much he struggled with sickness and dizziness.
